Program Objective:

This program offers a sequence of courses that provides coherent and rigerous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for the future education and careers in the Health Science career cluster; provides technical skill proficiency, and includes competency-based applied learning that contributes to the academic knowledge, higher-order reasoning and problem solving skills, work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills, and occupation-specific skills, and knowledge of all aspects of Health Science career cluster.

Program Content:

The content includes but is not limited to central services departmental organization and function; basic anatomy, physiology, microbiology and chenistry related to central service activities; quality assurance; infection control and isolation techniques, principles of safety; principles, methods and controls of sterilization processes; cleaning, processing, packing, distributing, storing, and inventory control of sterile goods, instruments, trays, and equipment; medical terminology; surgical instrumentation; basic computer skills, interpersonal and job seeking skills, fundamentals of communication, case cart management, laparoscopic specialty, orthopedic specialty, flexible scope processing, shift supervisory skills, and procurement of supplies and equipment.

Admission Requirements:

  • 16 years of age or older and not currently enrolled in any K-12 program

  • Occupational Interest

  • High School Diploma / GED from an Accredited High School

Completion Requirements:

The entire program is 650 hours but students can earn a certificate upon completion of the following OCPs:

Minimum basic-skills grade levels required for awarding a Full Program Completion Certificate are 9th grade in Math, Reading, and Language on the TABE® test. (Exception: High School Diploma from Florida Public School 2007-Present.) Additional information can be provided by student services. Students are expected to complete program competencies.

Employment Requirements:

  • Complete the 650-hour Central Sterile Processing Technology program.

  • High School Diploma or GED

Salary:

The average wage for this career in Florida is $15.70 hourly or $32,650 annually.

Financial Aid:

Financial aid is available to those who qualify. Applicants must have a high school diploma from an accredited High School, or its equivalent. Program Cost:

  • In-state residents – $2.56 per hour (Subject to change)

  • Out of state resident – $10.25 per hour (Subject to change)

  • $15.00 application fee per trimester

  • Material fee – $150.00

  • Identification fee – $5.00 per trimester

  • Liability/Accidental Insurance: $25.00

  • Students must purchase books/kits and/or uniforms, if applicable

Program Hours:

  • Monday – Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
